Description: Bladesmith Dakota Owen is following in his father Chris Owen's footsteps - Dakota has been making knives, sharing his father's forge, since he was 12 years old. He originally took up the hobby to spend time with his father doing something they both enjoy, but young Dakota is clearly a promising maker in his own right.
This clip point utility was forged to shape from Dakota's own damascus. He began with 1084 and 15N20 carbon steel, chosen for their excellent contrast as well as edge holding ability. The blade shape is particularly enticing, and features a deep recurve and raised clip. It culminates in a hand forged, integral bolster. Integral bolsters show a bladesmith's skill at the forge, and Dakota has done it exceptionally well. The blade features a differential heat treatment -- with a softer, supportive spine and a hard, long lasting edge.
The handle is forged from presentation grade sambar stag. The natural texture of the dense antler provides a secure, comfortable grip. The handle is completed with a damascus pommel and finial.
The knife is accompanied by a wood sheath wrapped with leather. The upper is formed from shark leather.
Exceptional work throughout!
