Description: Bladesmith Dakota Owen is following in his father Chris Owen's footsteps. Dakota has been making knives, sharing his father's forge since he was 12 years old. He took up the hobby originally to spend time with his father doing something they both enjoy, but Dakota (who is now 20 years old and working as a machinist when not making knives) is clearly a promising maker in his own right.
This Bowie Knife is everything that a Bowie should be. The long blade has just the right amount of heft -- perfectly balanced for a swinging chop. A long swedge lightens the tip. By combining W2, 15N20, 1084 and 203E carbon steels, Dakota ensures both optimal contrast and edge holding. The undulating pattern shows exceptional control and skill at the forge. The blade features a differential heat treatment -- with a softer, supportive spine and a hard, long lasting edge.
The handle is formed from a premium section of ancient walrus ivory. The coloration is particularly dramatic, combining blue tones with cream and caramel. The guard, ferrule, butt cap, and pommel are all made from Dakota's own damascus.
Exceptional work throughout!
