Description: Bladesmith Dakota Owen is following in his father Chris Owen's footsteps - the high school student has been making knives, sharing his father's forge, since he was 12 years old. He took up the hobby originally to spend time with his father doing something they both enjoy, but young Dakota is clearly a promising maker in his own right.
The swayback blade is forged from Dakota's own ladder pattern damascus. He used 1095 and 15N20 carbon steels, chosen for their excellent contrast as well as edge holding ability. The undulating pattern shows exceptional control and skill at the forge. The blade features a differential heat treatment -- with a softer, supportive spine and a hard, long lasting edge.
The swayback blade shape means this piece will be an excellent use knife for any keen hunter, with sheephorn scales ensuring a secure grip, even when the handle is wet. Red fiber spacers add a bright flash of contrast and help the knife adjust to temperature and humidity changes. Nickel silver fittings complete the piece. The knife is accompanied by a hand stitched leather sheath with elephant leather overlay.
