Description: Garri Dadyan, born in Baku, Azerbaijan, was named a National Master Artist of the Soviet Union in 1985 for his unparalleled mastery of repousse metal work. In 1993 he became a member of the UNESCO International Federation of Artists in recognition of his superior artistry. A master metal worker, Mr. Dadyan employs the techniques of chasing, repousse, filigree and granulation, wax casting, engraving and niello with equal virtuosity. Working in solid sterling silver with precious stones, Garri brings old world mastery to the new world that few can emulate.
King's Dagger is a gorgeous example of the fine craftsmanship of this maker. The dagger ground blade is forged from five separate bars of intricate damascus. By forging to shape, the damascus patterns follow the edge as the pattern moves toward tip. A long fuller runs along the center of the blade on both sides.
The handle is formed from ivory and features 10k gold twisted wire inlays. The meticulously carved guard is formed from solid sterling silver and has four red garnets set into the silver. A large .5ct diamond is set into a flower at the center. Garri's maker mark is carved into the reverse side. The pommel is carved from matching sterling silver and features 29 blue topaz stones. The pommel is carved to match the twisting of the wire and is capped with a large faceted ruby at the end of the pommel.
To protect the blade during storage, Garri included a sterling silver sheath wrapped in gold snake skin. The front throat of the sheath features a intricately carved lion's head matched with scrolls. The tip of the sheath features a sterling silver carved crown. Both the throat and tip have faceted natural gems throughout.
Exceptional work throughout!
