Description: Des Horn is one of the fathers of the South African knife industry. His influence can be clearly seen in other South African's work, but also extends into knives made around the world. Whether put to a daily carry folder or an art knife, his attention to detail and skill is legendary.
The blade is formed from high performing RWL-34 stainless steel. RWL 34 is a premium powder metallurgy cutlery steel manufactured by ERASTEEL in Söderfors, Sweden. Because it is manufactured from rapidly solidified powders, the microstructure of the steel is much more uniform. This gives the steel higher strength and resistance to cracking. Des Horn double tempered and cryogenically treated the steel in liquid nitrogen for the ultimate in edge holding and strength.
The blade is well centered and has silky smooth action. It is easily opened using the front flipper mechanism. This style of flipper is not designed to be flicked open, but instead is rotated with the thumb.
Gloss carbon fiber scales rest on blue anodized titanium liners keeping this knife as light as it comes. A carbon fiber backbar matches the scales and keeps the knife rigid yet light. An elevated jimped thumb ramp provides for a secure thumb purchase. A machined titanium pocket clip is mounted for right-handed, tip-up carry and is anodized.
Exceptional work throughout!
