Description: I was very excited to finally meet Henning Wilkinson on my recent trip to South Africa. I had been watching his work develop for a bit over a year and there are few bladesmiths that combine such a great sense of design along with fit and finish.
This hunter features a blade that was forged from 15N20 and 1084 carbon steels. The steels were combined into an elegant and beautiful feather pattern. The left ricasso is inlaid with Wilkinson's mark, a stylized cross created from 9k gold. The spine is beautifully rounded for comfort when choking up on the blade.
The guard and ferrule are both made from Henning's damascus. Like the spine, the sides of the guard are perfectly rounded. The ferrule joins with ironwood scales in a complex joint that is achieved without the slightest gap. A frame made of mild steel completes the handle.
Everything on this knife was meticulously hand fitted to perfection. Perhaps most evidence of Henning's striving for perfection, though, is his hidden pin construction which leads to tremendous strength without the distraction of visible pins.
The knife is accompanied by a hand stitched leather sheath with ostrich shin leather inlay.
Absolutely exceptional!
