Description: This folding knife was made by South African knifemaker Herucus Blomerus. A resident of Pretoria, Herucus (pronounced 'eh-roo-koos') has been a proud member of the South African Knifemakers Guild since 2005. Herucus' folders combine incredibly smooth action with a high level of fit and finish. This flipper is among his masterpieces to date, combining tremendous materials with an action that can't be beat!
The clip point blade is formed from stainless damascus san mai. A central bar of Takefu SG2 powdered metallurgical stainless steel is surrounded by alternating layers of stainless steel and nickel. At Hrc 63-64, this folder has among the best edge holding of any Blomerus knife ever made. The resulting damascus is high contrast and immediately captivating. The linear damascus reveals Ricus' complex, super-clean grind. The flats are mirror polished, nearly hiding the pattern. The blade is hollow ground for easy maintenance.
The blade is perfectly centered and has incredibly smooth action -- easily opened with one hand using the discreet and ambidextrous flipper toggle. The blade uses the IKBS (Ikoma Korth Bearing System) pivot system. This mechanism, which was originally designed to fit balisong knives, uses ball bearings to create exceptional action with no blade play.
The scales are made from very rare antique Westinghouse Micarta. They meet perfectly with bolsters formed from high contrast Zladinox titanium damascus. This mokume, which was forged from different grades of titanium nicely complements yellow tones in the antique Micarta. Anodized titanium liners surround a matching damascus san mai backbar and have been hand filed into a vine pattern. The anodized 3D machined titanium pocket clip with ceramic retention ball is mounted for right-handed, tip-up carry.
Absolutely exceptional!!
