Description: Mastersmith Andrew Meers is a talented knifemaker originally from Boston, where he studied under Mastersmith JD Smith. A graduate of Southern Illinois University - Carbondale, Andrew has a design sense that is beyond compare. Andrew has won numerous awards in the knifemaking and art communities including the Makers' Choice and Best of Show at the 2015 BladeGallery International Knife Show and Best Folder at the 2016 Art of Steel Show.
A unique knife at sight, the handle is made from textured, antiqued mild steel. The left scale features a detailed gecko inlaid in copper with 24k gold and silver details. The right scale features a detailed image of bamboo formed from copper that has been contoured and engraved. Bamboo is a favorite hiding spot for geckos. The steel scales are set on 308 stainless steel liners.
The blade shows off tremendous skill at the forge. Andrew combined 1084 and 15N20 carbon steels into a beautiful, radialed explosion pattern. Andrew's skill at the forge is clearly evident in the finely patterned steel. The blade is easily opened using the right handed thumb nick. The blade easily opens with a firm half stop. Meers' mark is set on the right side of the blade. His MS mark is set on the left.
This is an amazing work of art and tremendously inspiring! Words cannot do this knife justice. It is clear why Andrew Meers has quickly become among my favorite makers -- and is winning so many accolades!
