Description: Jan Wahl, is a maker to watch. He became a full time knife maker in 2009 and joined the South African Knife Makers Guild in 2012. Jan has excellent attention to detail. Lately, he has been hanging out with Mastersmith Kevin Harvey and Wahl has been picking up some serious new skills.
The 8-1/2 inch dagger ground blade is made from a damascus san mai (san mai suminagashi). Layers of linear damascus are formed from alternating layers of stainless steel and nickel. A central core of VG-10 stainless steel ensures an exceptionally sharp, long lasting edge. The linear damascus accentuates Wahl's perfect grinds. A central fuller travels along the center of the blade and culminates in a stippled ricasso.
The handle combines nickel silver fittings with a fluted handle. The pommel and guard are carved and stippled. The center of each side of the quillion guard is inlaid with a faceted emerald cubic zirconia. Fileworked nickel silver spacers separate the fittings from the maple burl central column. The guard surrounds a fileworked, anodized titanium spacer. The handle is completed with twisted Sterling silver wire set into the fluting.
Excellent work throughout!
