Description: Mastersmith Kevin Harvey is well known for his tremendous attention to detail -- only matched by his skill at design. This dagger is a dramatic example of his work. Regretfully, few of Harvey's knives make it to the US these days. I was extremely excited when this parcel arrived at our gallery.
The 11 inch dagger blade was ground from Kevin's highly complex mosaic damascus. The pattern is high contrast and very detailed, It shows his tremendous skill at the forge.
The handle and guard are made from nickel silver. The handle is meticulously constructed with perfectly folded corners and soldered with silver solder. Showing his attention to detail, Kevin created a mandrel so that he could create these folds without the slightest flaw. The seams are virtually invisible. Both the guard and handle were engraved in a Grecian theme by Kevin. One side of the handle shows a Spartan helm and dragon. In fact, the word dragon comes from the Greek (Dracon). The other side shows a Grecian urn with Pegasus. Showing a particularly high level of craftsmanship, this dagger is made with takedown construction.
This knife is accompanied by a wood sheath wrapped with premium ostrich shin leather. The nickel silver throat and tip are both engraved to match the handle.
Absolutely exceptional work throughout!
