Description: This exceptional dagger is Fred Ott's take on a traditional Flemish Bollock Dagger. Also nicknamed the kidney dagger, this popular style was used throughout Europe between the 13th and 18th centuries. This backup weapon to a sword was traditionally carried on the front of the belt. One of the longest lasting dagger designs known to history, the bollock dagger eventually gave way to the main-gauche and the Scottish dirk styles in the 18th century.
The 11 inch damascus blade was forged to shape from Fred's own damascus, beginning with 1095 and 15N20 carbon steels. The pool and eye pattern damascus is immediately captivating. A thick, supportive spine moves into an aggressively sharp tip used for thrusting.
The handle is made from fluted walnut wood. The rounded guard, from which the dagger gets its name, is immediately recognizable in this famous style of dagger. The handle is completed with a nickel silver butt cap and textured, antiqued copper seppa (spacer).
To keep the dagger close at hand, a basswood sheath wrapped in goatskin leather accompanies this exquisite historical recreation.
Excellent work throughout!
