Description: This exceptional Viking Short Sword was made by Mastersmith David Lisch. For years before making knives, David worked as a full time ornamental blacksmith and he brings an exceptional level of blacksmithing skills to his forged knives.
The 17 inch long blade is formed from Lisch's own steel. It is a pattern he calls River of Flying Dragons. The complex pattern has an undulating river of damascus moving through is dragons pattern damascus. It is a pattern that can be examined for hours! The blade was forged to shape and features a meticulously balanced symmetrical dagger grind. A fuller travels along the center of each side.
The handle is formed from African blackwood (Dalbergia melanoxylon). Despite being one of the hardest woods in the world, the contoured handle was hand carved and inlaid with 14k gold twisted wire. The guard and pommel were forged from antique wrought iron and display a technique that he recently developed. After being forged and finished, the handle fittings were combined with a thin layer of gold using a combined technique of reticulation and depletion gilding. The result is a timeless amalgamation of gold and wrought iron.
The sword is accompanied by a hand forged wrought iron and African blackwood display stand.
