Description: Daniel Winkler became a full time bladesmith in 1988. His inspiration continues to come from frontier America - a time when the equipment a person carried meant sustenance and survival. He strives to be innovative, while maintaining a recognizable style. His goal is to make tools of uncompromising quality that will last a lifetime and survive as heirlooms for future generations. Winkler had the honor of producing knives and axes for use by principal actors in the epic motion picture Last of the Mohicans. Regretfully, Daniel makes very few hand forged knives today, with most of his efforts devoted to the Winkler Knives line.
This neck dagger was made around 2005. It is in new condition and has been meticulously cared for. By all appearances, Daniel could have made it yesterday.
The blade was forged to shape from his own damascus, beginning with carbon steels. Both edges are brought to a razor edge. The center features a forge finish.
The handle is crafted from ancient walrus ivory set on a distal tapered full tang. A ferrule formed from textured copper is surrounded by leather sinew.
The sheath is handmade by Karen Shook. It can be worn either around your neck or on your belt. It is hand cut from tanned deer hide and then hand-stitched. Leather tassels hold antique trade beads and tin cones. Decorative beadwork is set along the top of the sheath.
This is a rare opportunity to procure a rare Daniel Winkler knife!
