Description: Award winning Swedish bladesmith Henry Hildén held nothing back when he created this Nordic Dagger. Henry is an extremely accomplished Swedish knifemaker, forging damascus that clearly sets him as one of the greatest makers anywhere. His knives are quite traditional in their approach, striving for excellent fit and finish, as well as performance.
The exquisite dagger blade was forged to shape from three primary layers. A central 1770 carbon steel core ensures a keen, long lasting edge. This is surrounded by a layer of nickel (to stop carbon migration) and damascus twisted Ws. The twisted Ws pattern damascus was forged from 1770 and 15N20 carbon steels. The patterns are extremely clear and show tremendous control and skill. A central fuller travels along each side of the blade.
The handle combines ancient walrus bone, bog oak and mosaic damascus with bronze and silver spacers. Colors in the ancient walrus bone developed from minerals in the soil. Dark spacers are made from bog oak. This wood has been buried in a Nordic peat bog for hundreds or sometimes thousands of years. The extremely low oxygen conditions of the bog protect the wood from normal decay, while the underlying peat provides acidic conditions where iron salts and other minerals react with the tannins in the wood, gradually giving it a distinct dark brown to almost black color. Bronze spacers are hand textured and bring in warm tones. Both the pommel and guard are formed from Henry's Turkish Twist pattern damascus. The handle is finished with a twist pattern damascus finial.
This knife includes a hand tooled, single seamed traditional Swedish rawhide sheath.
Spectacular work throughout from one of the great Nordic knifemakers!
