Description: This folding knife was made by South African knifemaker Herucus Blomerus. A resident of Pretoria, Herucus (pronounced 'eh-roo-koos') has been a proud member of the South African Knifemakers Guild since 2005.
The drop point N690 stainless blade is meticulously hand satin finished in the grinds and mirror polished on the flats. N690 is a steel created by Bohler in Austria. It takes an incredibly sharp edge and holds on to it. The increased toughness gives it better resistance to edge chipping. The blade is hollow ground for easy, quick touchups.
The blade is perfectly centered and has incredibly smooth action -- easily opened with one hand using the discreet and ambidextrous flipper toggle. The blade uses the IKBS (Ikoma Korth Bearing System) pivot system. This mechanism, which was originally designed to fit balisong knives, uses ball bearings to create exceptional action with no blade play.
Presentation grade Arizona desert ironwood scales meet perfectly to hand-engraved zirconium bolsters. The engraver is Belgium-born artist Julien Marchal. Julien studied engraving and gun making at Léon Mignon Liège in Belgium prior to emigrating to South Africa. The depth and detail of this engraving is particularly dramatic. Straight lines are set behind the floral scroll engraving, giving it an exceptional flash. Zirconium is a transitional metal that is primarily mined in South Africa and Australia. It is resistant to scuffing and corrosion. Bronze anodized titanium liners, hand filed in a vine pattern surround a N690 stainless steel backbar. The titanium pocket clip with ceramic retention ball is mounted for right-handed, tip-up carry.
Exceptional fit and finish throughout!
