Description: This exceptional knife was created by renowned Swedish knifemaker Roger Bergh. It has been in a private collection since it was made in 2001 and has been meticulously cared for. It has never been used to cut and by all appearances, Roger could have made it yesterday. Sadly, very few of Roger Bergh's knives make it to the US these days.
The complex damascus blade combines a snakeskin pattern mosaic damascus center core surrounded by bars of explosion pattern damascus. By using 20C and 15N20 carbon steels, Bergh ensures an exceptionally sharp and long lasting edge.
The handle is formed from a beautiful section of artifact ancient walrus ivory. In the 18th and 19th centuries, native Alaskans used walrus ivory to build utilitarian tools. The artifact handle of this knife was a fishing net weight. The end of the handle bares the hole the net's rope was threaded through. A spacer formed from caramel toned mammoth ivory adds a nice contrast. Black fiber spacers assist the handle to adjust to temperature and humidity changes. The bolster is formed from web pattern mosaic damascus and is reminiscent of the nets on which the weight was used.
The knife is accompanied by a single seamed, hand tooled, traditional leather sheath, also formed by Roger Bergh.
Absolutely exceptional!
