Description: Pär-Olof Eklund is a master of the Sami styled knife and regularly receives awards in the Swedish Championships. Seeing his work, it is no surprise.
This large knife is truly a one-of-a-kind piece. The blade is formed from feather pattern damascus forged by renowned bladesmith Roger Bergh. By using 20C and 15N20 carbon steels, Bergh ensures a keen, long lasting edge. The deeply etched pattern is immediately captivating! The feather pattern damascus travels through the center bar and is surrounded by an explosion pattern spine and cutting edge. The long swedge stops just short of being fully sharpened.
The handle is very traditional and has a slim oval shape that fits very comfortably into the hand. The reindeer antler has a gloss polish, bringing out natural variations in color. The traditional Scandinavian patterns on the sheath and handle are not scrimshaw, but hand engraving, darkened with alder bark powder. The engraving is very detailed, showing tremendous skill in implementation. The damascus spacer and butt cap are also forged by Roger Bergh.
The exquisite knife is accompanied by a traditional Sami style reindeer sheath also hand engraved on both sides. Reindeer antler of this size has always been rare. I haven't seen a large horn sheath of this size in many years. The sheath is completed with a braided leather lanyard which is attached to the form-fitted leather upper. An engraved reindeer antler bead completes the sheath. Cutouts on the front of the sheath reveal the blade when stored in the sheath. When the blade is removed, engraving on the interior are revealed.
This knife is sure to be at the center of any collection!
