Description: This very rare Defense Spike was made by renowned Northwest knifemaker Rod Chappel and completed September 14th, 1991. It has been in a private collection and has been well cared for. It has never been used and is in virtually new condition. Rod Chappel is an Alaskan Native American knifemaker and created knives of tremendous distinction.
The 4 inch blade is a broad triangular grind, combining three hollow grinds. It is scalpel-sharp, needle-pointed and a very lethal....and messy....weapon. A blood groove travels through the polished blade. The central hollow is inscribed "Roderick Caribou / Chappel …. Defense Spike". The right side of the blade is marked "SS-440c / SER. No 005". The left side is marked: "Sept 14th, 1991 / Mountlake Terrace, Wa".
The handle combines polished stainless steel, brass, and black micarta into an elegant, flowing shape. A hole drilled in the end allows for a lanyard to be added for additional security.
Excellent work throughout from one of the great makers in the custom knife industry!
