Description: This LL14 Flipper was made by South African knifemaker Herucus Blomerus. A resident of Pretoria, Herucus (pronounced 'eh-roo-koos') has been a proud member of the South African Knifemakers Guild since 2005.
The spear point blade is made from Bohler N690 stainless blade and is meticulously hand satin finished in the grinds and mirror polished on the flats. N690 is created by Bohler in Austria. It takes an incredibly sharp edge and holds on to it. The increased toughness gives it better resistance to edge chipping. The blade is hollow ground for easy, quick touchups. A boot grind gives the knife elegant appearance, reduces weight, and provides a detail-oriented tip.
The blade is easily opened by using the ambidextrous flipper mechanism. It is perfectly centered and has silky-smooth drop shut action due to the IKBS (Ikoma Korth Bearing System) pivot system. This mechanism, which was originally designed for balisong knives, uses ball bearings to create smooth action with no blade play.
Presentation grade Arizona desert ironwood scales meet perfectly to hand-engraved zirconium bolsters. The engraver is Belgium-born artist Julien Marchal. Julien studied engraving and gun making at Léon Mignon Liège in Belgium prior to emigrating to South Africa. Zirconium is a transitional metal that is primarily mined in South Africa and Australia. It is resistant to corrosion and scuffing. Titanium liners are hand fileworked into a vine pattern. The knife is easy to keep close at hand using the 3D machined titanium pocket clip with ceramic retention ball. The clip is mounted for right-side, tip-up carry.
Exceptional fit and finish throughout!
