Description: South African knifemaker, Jan Wahl, is a maker to watch. He became a full time knife maker in 2009 and joined the South African Knife Makers Guild in 2012. Jan has excellent attention to detail.
The 4 inch skinner blade is made from satin finished N690 stainless steel. N690 is a super-steel created by Bohler in Austria. It takes an incredibly sharp edge and holds on to it. Increased toughness gives it better resistance to edge chipping. The blade is hollow ground for an easy to maintain edge. The spine has been nicely rounded for comfort and fileworked for a secure thumb purchase.
Warthog tusk scales are surrounded by kierieklapper wood accents. Both are set on a distal tapered full tang. Kierieklapper (Combretum hereroense), also known as russet bushwillow is a small tree found in eastern Africa. The textured stainless steel bolster is nicely dovetailed to the scales, ensuring a perfect fit. The handle is nicely carved to swell in the middle and end for a perfect grip. This is a knife you won't want to put down.
This knife is accompanied by a hand stitched vegetable tanned leather sheath.
Excellent work throughout!
