Description: Anders Hogstrom creates knives with an intriguing fusion of Japanese and Nordic cultures. He blends the techniques and styles of his native Sweden with those learned from Scott Slobodian during his apprenticeship in the United States. This influence, combined with his tremendous skill, makes for knives that are beautifully original.
This boot dagger from Anders is truly exceptional! The blade began with twist pattern damascus forged by renowned Swedish knifemaker Conny Persson. Conny began with 15N20 and 20C carbon steels, ensuring a keen, long lasting edge. Anders' boot grind nicely shows the pattern hidden in the steel.
The handle is formed from presentation grade Australian ringed gidgee wood. Gidgee is a member of the Acacia family (same family as koa). It grows in arid regions of Australia resulting in dense, hard wood like desert ironwood. The slow-growing gidgee may hang on for hundreds of years and produces one of Australia’s hardest and most durable timbers. The ringed wood nicely complements the twisted steel. The highly polished wood is truly exceptional! The antiqued and textured sterling silver guard provides perfect visual balance.
The knife is accompanied by a traditional Swedish leather sheath. Exceptional work throughout!
This knife is featured on page 37 of the 45th Anniversary Collector's Edition in Blade Magazine.
