Description: Ryuichi (Dew) Hara is the 41 year old son of renowned knifemaker Koji Hara. Dew grew up in a knife family and naturally got involved with the knifemaking by helping his father and learning his techniques. Koji Hara is well known for creating art knives with tremendous precision and detailed inlays. After working in his father's workshop for over 20 years, Dew decided to create his own knives.
The Mina Flipper Type D is a tactical EDC that shows Ryuchi Hara's tremendous sense of design and skill. The handle material is Duralumin, which is a strong, hard, lightweight alloy of aluminum used in aircraft construction. It was patented in 1909 by Alfred Wilm, a German metallurgist and was originally made only at the company Dürener Metallwerke at Düren, Germany. (The name is a contraction of Dürener and aluminum). The handle was then powder coated green for a stunning look!
Dew chose to use Stavax stainless steel created by Bohler in Austria. This stainless tool steel combines extremely high corrosion resistance with wear resistance. Stavax is the right choice when rust is unacceptable and where requirements for good hygiene are high, as within the medical industry or optical industry. The blade's bevels were then black powder coated providing a handsome two-tone look. The flats feature a satin finish.
The blade is easily opened using the ambidextrous flipper mechanism. The blade runs on bearings and has silky-smooth action. To keep the knife close at hand, it includes a pocket clip mounted for right-handed, tip-up carry. The pocket clip is marked "04" for Prototype #4.
This knife includes a hard storage case, a kimono fabric carry pouch, and a certificate of authenticity from the maker. Exceptional work throughout!
