Description: Bill Kirkes is a journeyman smith with the American Blade Society. He believes there are several factors that apply in the creation of a fine custom knife, whether it is a utility hunter or an ornately crafted dagger. His knives are thoroughly tested and then meticulously finished.
The satin finished 5160 carbon steel blade was forged closely to shape, ensuring optimal grain refinement. A gently undulating differential heat treatment line shows the transition between the soft, supportive spine, and the keen, long lasting edge. This line, which is created in a technique similar to creating a Japanese sword, is called a hamon. The blade is perfectly weighted for chopping blows while a subtle recurve will help will many cutting tasks.
The comfortable handle is formed from presentation grade ironwood. The full tang is distal tapered creating a perfect balance in hand. Jimping along the spine provides a secure grip for chopping tasks.
This knife includes a tooled leather sheath made by Bill Kirkes. This is a knife that will be as comfortable in any collection as it would around the camp site!
