Description: Bill Burke, who was honored as a Master Smith June 2008, makes knives that are as high performance as they can get -- the sort of knife that if you were stuck out in the woods or on a desert island and only had one tool, this would be it. The heat treatment is a highly detailed process that was developed between Mastersmith Ed Fowler and Bill Burke after years of trial and experimentation. This technique, involving low temperature forging, triple quenching and triple tempering creates some of the sharpest and most long lasting edges found anywhere. A differential heat treatment results in a blade with a soft, supportive spine and a keen, long lasting edge.
This Every Day Carry knife was made by Burke back in 2002 or 2003. It has been in a private collection and has been meticulously cared for. It has never been used to cut and by all appearances it could have been made yesterday. Bill's BTB mark is on the left side of the blade. It is very rare to find a Bill Burke EDC set on a full tang.
This unique EDC features the same edge retention as the sheep horn knives that Burke is so well known for. The blade was forged to shape at low temperature from 52100 carbon steel. The spine is rounded for a comfortable grip.
Both the blade and tang are distal tapered for superior balance. Elk antler scales provide a sure, comfortable grip. Red fiber spacers assist the handle to adjust to temperature and humidity changes.
The knife is accompanied by a hand stitched pouch style leather belt sheath.
Excellent fit and finish throughout!
