Description: Mastersmith Andrew Meers is a talented knifemaker originally from Boston, where he studied under Mastersmith JD Smith. A graduate of Southern Illinois University - Carbondale, Andrew has a design sense that is beyond compare. During the summer of 2106, this exquisite chef's knife was featured in an exhibition at The Metals Museum in Memphis, Tennessee, called "Inches from Earth". This exhibition focused on the connections between human beings and the natural world.
This chef's knife is likely to become the primary knife used in your kitchen. The sleek blade provides plenty of finger clearance while being extremely dexterous. The nicely arced blade has a perfect shape for an efficient rocking chop. Whether chopping onions, mincing garlic, or slicing meats, this knife will be a perfect choice.
Meers hand forged the laddered Ws pattered damascus to shape beginning with 1084 and 15N20 carbon steels. This ensures a keen long lasting edge as well as exceptional beauty! The undulating pattern is immediately captivating. The blade and bolster are made from one solid piece of damascus. Though integral knives are regularly done in production work, creating an integral bolster in a custom setting is extremely difficult and shows the maker's skill at its best.
The left side of the blade is marked with Andrew's maker's mark. The right side is stamped "M.S." for Master Smith. The left side of the bolster is inlaid with a fine sterling silver bumblebee. The result is quite beautiful.
Meers formed the elegant handle from kingwood secured with six stainless steel pins. The nicely rounded handle fills out the hand perfectly accommodating a very comfortable pinch grip.
A gorgeous piece built for serious use, yet one of the more dramatic kitchen knives that I have come across.
