Description: Mastersmith Adam DesRosiers, alongside with his wife Haley, live off the grid in very remote rural Alaska. With no plumbed water or power available for 8 miles, aside from the sky, creek, or gas generator, these two truly live off of the land and create handmade knives meant for serious use though they often find their way into collections!
The massive blade was forged to shape from Cru Forge V carbon steel. This steel from Crucible is a vanadium-modified, high-carbon blade steel specifically designed to offer the forgeability of carbon steels such as W1, 1086 or 52100, while providing improved wear resistance in finished blades. The addition of vanadium promotes the formation of hard vanadium carbides in the micro-structure, adding to the abrasive wear resistance of the material compared to plain high carbon steels. It is a perfect choice for a chopper. The integral bolster is a hallmark of Adam's work and shows tremendous skill at the forge. The Parkerized manganese phosphate finish (MIL-STD 171) provides limited rust resistance with a sturdy non-reflective finish. The clip point blade measures 10-3/4 inches and has a lengthy false edge (swedge), and is distal tapered for perfect balance.
The handle is formed from presentation grade flame maple. A swell in the palm area and a flare at the end results in a comfortable and safe grip in hand. Alternating black fiber and silicon carbon spacers assist the handle to adjust to temperature and humidity changes.
This is a sizable yet well balanced, classy knife, truly intended for hard use. It is sure to be a shining star in any collection. Absolutely exceptional!
