Description: P-O Eklund is a master of the Sami styled knife and regularly receives awards in the Swedish Championships. Seeing his work, it is no surprise. This knife won 1st prize in the half horn knife category at the 2016 Nordic Championship in Ludvika, Sweden.
This knife is truly a one-of-a-kind piece. The blade was forged to shape by Vladic Daniluk. Vladic is a Russian-born bladesmith now living in Sweden. He is well known throughout Europe for his exquisite control over damascus as well as his dramatic hunting knives. The blade combines 20C and 15N20 carbon steels into the highly complex pattern. A mosaic damascus central bar is surrounded by firecracker pattern edge and spine bars. The blade is immediately captivating.
The traditional handle has a slim oval shape that fits comfortably and securely in the hand. The reindeer antler has a slight gloss finish, bringing out natural variations in color. Masur birch adds a nice contrast. The traditional Scandinavian patterns on the sheath and handle are not scrimshaw, but hand engraving, darkened with alder bark powder. The engraving is very detailed, showing tremendous skill. A central section of matching mosaic damascus is inlaid into the center of the handle.
The half horn sheath combines reindeer antler with masur birch. The engraving and style nicely reflect the knife. Reindeer antler this large has become increasingly hard to come by.
Exceptional fit and finish throughout!
