Description: JD van Deventer creates unique knives of the highest degree of craftsmanship. He took up knife making in 2005 and became a member of the Knifemaker’s Guild of Southern Africa by 2007. He works in a one man shop and even builds most of his machines himself! He is clearly a maker to keep an eye on.
This Cruz flipper is among his master works.
The blade is perfectly centered with silky-smooth action -- easily opened with one hand using the discreet and ambidextrous flipper toggle. It uses the IKBS (Ikoma Korth Bearing System) pivot system. This mechanism, which was originally designed to fit balisong knives, uses ball bearings to create smooth action with no blade play.
The blade is formed from premium M390 powdered stainless steel for the extreme edge retention, high strength, and the toughness that a hard-use knife demands. Because of its uniform microstructure and stainless properties, M390 is often used in surgical cutting instruments and other applications that require a high finish. The blade is hollow ground for an easy to maintain edge and has been satin finished in the grinds while being mirror polished on the flats.
Handle scales are formed from warthog tusk. The left scale is meticulously scrimshawed by renowned artist Nkosi Jubane. Two rhino are depicted in the bush. The scrimshaw is tremendously lifelike and detailed. Lightning strike carbon fiber liners are precision fit to the warthog tusk scales. Fileworked, anodized titanium liners surround a differentially anodized and textured titanium backspacer. The titanium pocket clip is mounted for tip-up, right-handed carry.
Truly a master work!
