Description: This book tells the story of the life of Bill Moran Jr., unarguably the most influential knife smith of the 20th century.
In 1973, Bill Moran was working on a “new” project at his forge near Middletown, MD that would change the world of knives forever. The intricate damascus patterns forged in the iron and steel of the Medieval period had always fascinated Moran, but it had become a lost art. He studied, experimented, and perfected how to make modern damascus blades. He not only introduced his damascus knives at the 1973 show, he distributed how-to instructions — at no cost. This re-introduction established Moran as the “father of modern damascus”. Aside from this, he founded the American Bladesmith Society and is known for rejuvenating the modern bladesmith movement of hand-forged knives.
This book contains hundreds of beautiful photos of Bill's work throughout the years, professional and personal stories from his life, and many photos of Bill at the forge. Each photograph is followed by a well-written description by Steve Shackleford, the editor of Blade magazine. Photography is by Francesco Pachi. This book could not have been completed without the tireless assistance of BR Hughes, Master Smith Jay Hendrickson, and Master Smith Barney Barnes.
This autographed copy is signed by Francesco Pachi, Steve Shackleford, BR Hughes, Jay Hendrickson, and Barney Barnes.
