Description: Mastersmith Harvey Dean's eye for design and style shine through his work. I was very excited when I heard that he had begun to make straight razors a couple years ago and even more so when I finally got to see his work. He has spent the last two years refining his razors -- and using them himself. He was very lucky to be able to get advice from renowned straight razor maker, Tim Zowada.
The dramatic blade was forged to shape from L6 and O1 carbon steels. The damascus blade was hollow ground for a tremendously thin, high performing edge. The steel was brought to 62-63 Hrc for a particularly long lasting edge. Harvey inlaid his name in 24kt gold on the left side of the blade.
Handle scales were made from rare lightning strike carbon fiber. Lightning strike carbon fiber was developed by the military for use in fighter jets. Copper strands are interwoven with the carbon layers. A 14kt gold wedge adds just the right amount of contrast. Dean chose to use gold plated screws throughout.
This is an absolutely spectacular custom straight razor. It is accompanied by a hand tooled leather case.
