Description: Daniel Winkler became a full time bladesmith in 1988. His inspiration continues to come from frontier America - a time when the equipment a person carried meant sustenance and survival. He strives to be innovative, while maintaining a recognizable style. His goal is to make tools of uncompromising quality that will last a lifetime and survive as heirlooms for future generations. Winkler had the honor of producing knives and axes for use by principal actors in the epic motion picture Last of the Mohicans
Daniel's folders have always been hard to find. This one was made around 2004 and has been meticulously cared for. By all appearances, Daniel could have made it yesterday. The combination of this exquisite damascus folder and the sheath that Karen made are exceptional!
The blade was forged to shape from his own damascus, beginning with carbon steels. The blade is hand fileworked along the entire length of the spine. The action is smooth and the backlock provides a safe, firm lock.
The handle is crafted from premium stag crown and is extremely comfortable. The back spacer is formed from damascus steel. Forged damascus curls come off the spine and end of the handle.
The knife is accompanied by a handmade custom sheath by Karen Shook. The sheath combines rawhide and deer hide.
This is a rare opportunity to procure a truly exceptional Daniel Winkler knife! This is among his most impressive folders that I have encountered.
