Description: Mastersmith Daniel Winkler created the Winkler II line in 2010. It is an alternate approach to an established tradition. Winkler Knives II is the result of processes Daniel Winkler developed over the past few years in order to provide axes and knives to teams within United States Army Special Operations and US Naval Special Warfare. Each piece in this collection bears the Winkler Knives II touchmark.
The Legacy Axe was designed with US Navy and Army Veteran Special Operator Kevin Holland. He is the guy who first came to Daniel Winkler to create a military axe so itís great to see him lend his experience toward new designs.
The Legacy Axe shares many lines with that first model that Kevin carried into combat. One of the biggest changes is the swept back handle so the axe doesnít catch on the leg as you walk. The top half of the handle is skeletonized and wrapped in 550 paracord. This provides added comfort and allows a section of the handle to be repaired easily if damaged during use. Maple scales provide a sure, comfortable grip. Forward weight distribution packs an effective blow, while a secondary hand grip under the head gives the option of quick action when needed. An integral glass breaker extends beyond the handle scales.
The head measures approximately 6-1/4" from the spike to the cutting edge. The cutting edge is approximately 2-1/4" long.
The Legacy Axe is accompanied by a felt lined Kydex carrier with nylon webbing belt hangers.
