Description: This folding knife was made by South African knifemaker Herucus Blomerus. A resident of Pretoria, Herucus (pronounced 'eh-roo-koos') has been a proud member of the South African Knifemakers Guild since 2005.
The drop point N690 stainless blade is meticulously hand satin finished in the grinds and mirror polished on the flats. N690 is a super-steel created by Bohler in Austria. It takes an incredibly sharp edge and holds on to it. The increased toughness gives it better resistance to edge chipping. The blade is hollow ground for easy, quick touchups.
The blade is easily opened by using the front flipper mechanism. It is well centered and has silky-smooth action due to the IKBS (Ikoma Korth Bearing System) pivot system. This mechanism, which was originally designed to fit balisong knives, uses ball bearings to create smooth action with no blade play.
Lightning strike carbon fiber scales meet perfectly to textured zirconium bolsters. Copper strands move through the carbon fiber weave. This type of carbon fiber was originally designed for use on fighter jets to redirect electricity. Lightning strike carbon fiber is among the hardest to find knifemaking materials. The textured, anodized zirconium bolsters provide a steadfast grip that is also very beautiful. Zirconium is a new material to the knifemaking world. It is a transitional metal that is primarily mined in South Africa and Australia. Zirconium is highly resistant to corrosion and scratching. Titanium liners are anodized blue/silver toned and are hand fileworked in a vine pattern.
This folder is a classy and refined piece, unique and not ostentatious. Herucus is clearly a maker to keep an eye out for - exceptional fit and finish throughout!
