Description: Fred Ott's work is always something that I enjoy, but his silver inlaid knives are always exceptional.
The 8.9 inch blade was forged to shape from 1086M carbon steel. It was heat treated using a traditional Japanese clay treatment. The result is a undulating heat treatment line known as a hamon. This line shows the transition between the soft, supportive spine, and the hard, keen cutting edge.
The curly maple handle has been nicely carved and is exceptionally comfortable to grasp. Fine silver inlay meticulously displays spiraling vines and leaves. Decorative pin work completes the inlay. A front guard and ferrule are formed from antiqued wrought iron, lending an heirloom quality.
Accompanied by a basswood sheath wrapped in buffalo hide.
Tremendous fit and finish throughout!
