Description: This knife is massive! With the blade measuring a generous 4-1/2 inches, it is the largest folder that Andre Thorburn has made to date!
South African knifemaker André Thorburn creates an exceptional folder. The blade is perfectly centered. The flipper opening is easy to use for quick deployment. When combined with the IKBS ball bearing system, the action is exceptional! The Ikoma Korth Bearing System (IKBS) was originally designed to fit balisong knives and uses ball bearings to create exceptional action with no blade play. This special folder uses two tracks of ball bearings rather than just one. This produces unparalleled smooth action without play -- even more so than a standard IKBS mechanism. Between the large blade and the double row IKBS, this is as smooth and satisfying action as a knife gets!
The tanto blade is formed from premium M390 powdered stainless steel for the extreme edge retention, high strength, and the toughness that a hard-use knife demands. Because of its uniform microstructure and stainless properties, M390 is often used in surgical cutting instruments and other applications that require a high finish. The blade is hollow ground for an easy to maintain edge and has been satin finished in the grinds while being mirror polished on the flats.
The scales are silver strike carbon fiber that have been nicely domed and polished. This variation of lightning strike carbon fiber uses aluminum wire (rather than copper) woven through the carbon strands. Jimping on the thumb ramp provides a comfortable, secure grip. The gently rounded handle feels sturdy and fills out the hand perfectly. The engraved, differentially anodized titanium bolsters provide a steadfast grip that is also very beautiful. Titanium liners rest against red fiber spacers and have been fileworked and anodized. A black carbon fiber backspacer helps keep the knife light, yet strong. The pierced titanium pocket clip is mounted for tip-up carry.
Exceptional!
