Description: Johann van Deventer, better known as JD, aims to produce unique knives of the highest degree of craftsmanship. He took up knife making in 2005 and became a member of the Knifemaker’s Guild of Southern Africa by 2007. He works in a one man shop and even builds most of his machines himself! He is clearly a maker to keep an eye on.
This flipper is a tactical folder with absolutely exceptional action. The blade is well centered and silky smooth -- easily opened with one hand using the discreet and ambidextrous front flipper toggle. The blade uses the IKBS (Ikoma Korth Bearing System) pivot system. This mechanism, which was originally designed to fit balisong knives, uses ball bearings to create smooth action with no blade play.
The tanto blade is formed from premium Elmax stainless steel, a powder metallurgy steel created by Bohler-Uddeholm in Austria. It is corrosion resistant due to its high Chromium percentage. It also has excellent edge holding capabilities … It takes an incredibly sharp edge and holds on to it. The blade is hollow ground for an easy to maintain edge. A pierced fuller artistically travels along the blade. "Nr.015" is etched on the spine of the blade.
The handle is formed from contoured lightning strike carbon fiber set on orange G10 spacers. This type of carbon fiber was originally designed for use on fighter jets to redirect electricity. Lightning strike carbon fiber is among the hardest to find knifemaking materials. Blue anodized titanium liners keep the knife incredibly light. The titanium backbar has been anodized and textured. The titanium pocket clip is textured and anodized. It is mounted for right-handed tip-up, deep pocket carry.
Excellent work throughout!
