Description: Daniel Winkler and Karen Shook work together to create knives that have a timeless beauty that will quickly become family heirlooms. Daniel Winkler became a full time bladesmith in 1988. His inspiration continues to come from frontier America - a time when the equipment a person carried meant sustenance and survival. He strives to be innovative, while maintaining a recognizable style. His goal is to make tools of uncompromising quality that will last a lifetime and survive as heirlooms for future generations. Winkler had the honor of producing knives and axes for use by principal actors in the epic motion picture Last of the Mohicans.
Daniel's Bowies have always been hard to find. This one was made around 2003 and has been meticulously cared for. By all appearances, Daniel could have made it yesterday (or 200 years ago!).
This large Cowboy Style Bowie was forged from Daniel's own twist pattern damascus and has an antiqued finish. The spine is hand fileworked up to the clip. The base of the ricasso is also fileworked.
The S--Guard was forged to shape from mild steel. A clamshell was forged into the top and is surrounded by two curled finials. The base of the guard is twisted and completes with a curled finial. The stag handle is very comfortable. The natural texture provides a sure grip. An antiqued mild steel butt cap and finial complete the handle.
This knife is accompanied by a sheath by Karen Shook. She has combined latigo leather and rawhide for a true period feel. The sheath incorporates leather fringe, trade beads, tin cones, horse hair, and a concho.
Exceptional work throughout!
