Description: Aaron Wilburn was honored as a Master Smith in June of 2013. After attending a seminar lead by Mastersmith Joe Keesler on rasp knives, Aaron was immediately inspired and began making his Brute de Forge knives.
Here, Aaron began by forging W2 carbon steel into the brute de forge style. The integral choil is nicely rounded for an extremely comfortable grip. The dagger shaped blade features a clay zone heat treatment. This traditional Japanese technique results in a soft central ridge with keen, long lasting edge. The differential heat treatment line, called a hamon, is particularly dramatic.
Ancient mammoth ivory scales are set on the distal tapered full tang. Red fiber spaces assist the handle to adjust to temperature and humidity changes. Hand domed nickel silver pins complete the presentation.
The knife is accompanied by a hand stitched leather sheath. Aaron uses 8 oz leather by Wickett & Craig, one of the finest leather producers in America today.
