Description: Mastersmith Jay Hendrickson's knives have always inspired me. There is a gentlemanly elegance to his work that matches his personality. Silver vines are inlaid into presentation grade curly maple. The depth of the wood is evident, giving an heirloom quality to this exceptional Jay Hendrickson clip point hunter. The carved maple feels great in hand -- swelling to meet the palm.
Jay began by forging the san mai blade. This is the only san mai blade I have encountered from Jay -- quite a rarity. A 1084 carbon steel core was forge welded between layers of 316 stainless steel. The result is a knife that has the high performance of carbon steel, but with protective stainless steel sides. The appleseed grind is a hallmark of Jay's hand forged knives. Jay Hendrickson believes strongly in the hand forging process and it clearly shows in his work. By forging the blade to shape, Jay ensures optimal edge retention.
This knife is accompanied by a hand tooled sheath. The basswood is lined and wrapped with top quality leather.
This is a gorgeous knife, perfect for serious use, though it could easily be the prize of most any collection.
