Description: Daniel Winkler and Karen Shook work together to create knives that have a timeless beauty that will quickly become family heirlooms. Their name is well known in re-enactment circles throughout the world and movie buffs may recognize their work in films such as Last of the Mohicans. Their knives have an authenticity rarely found in other maker's work. Sadly, Daniel and Karen are currently not making their hand forged knives. This one was made back in 2004. It has been meticulously cared for and is in new condition. By all appearances, Daniel and Karen could have made it yesterday.

This rustic hunter has a dramatic sense of presence. Carbon steels were forged into a many layered damascus. The flats are forge finished, with the spine and grinds revealing the underlying patterns. The spine is fileworked for a secure thumb purchase.
Sheep horn scales sit on a distal tapered full damascus tang resulting in a perfect balance. When wet, sheep horn does not become slippery, and it is amazingly durable. The handle is extremely comfortable in the hand.
The knife is accompanied by a sheath by Karen Shook. The frontier style sheath combines vegetable tanned leather with a hand stitched rawhide wrap. A sewn seam travels around the edge. A porcupine quill medicine wheel is displayed on the front of the sheath. Deer hide thongs are decorated with glass beads, tin cones and horse hair.
