Description: Daniel Winkler became a full time bladesmith in 1988. His inspiration continues to come from frontier America - a time when the equipment a person carried meant sustenance and survival. He strives to be innovative, while maintaining a recognizable style. His goal is to make tools of uncompromising quality that will last a lifetime and survive as heirlooms for future generations. Winkler had the honor of producing knives and axes for use by principal actors in the epic motion picture Last of the Mohicans
Daniel's friction folders have always been hard to find. This one was made around 2003 and has been meticulously cared for. By all appearances, Daniel could have made it yesterday.
The blade was forged to shape from 1095 carbon steel. On the American frontier, where resources were scarce, blades were often made from worn out files. This blade is textured to resemble an old file.
The handle is crafted from deer bone set on mild steel liners. Bolsters are antiqued steel. A forged curl acts as the blade lock and a second curl completes the backspacer.
The neck sheath is handmade by Karen Shook. It is hand cut and then hand-stitched from both tanned leather and rawhide. Decorative thongs are made from deer hide. Antique trade beads are set on the tassels. The sheath itself is a work of art.
This is a rare opportunity to procure a rare Daniel Winkler knife!
