Description: Journeyman Smith Bruce Barnett is a Western Australian knifemaker living in the hills of Perth. Bruce is one of the fine Australian makers who is drawing the attention of the knifemaking world to the wealth of knifemaking talent in his country. Bruce's attention to detail and fine design aesthetic is clearly apparent in this elegant chef's knife.
This high performance chef's knife is a perfect choice as a primary knife in the kitchen. The long, deep-bellied blade is well suited for slicing vegetables and meats. The gentle arch of the cutting edge is perfect for a rocking chopping motion with plenty of finger clearance over a cutting board. Whether chopping tomatoes and onions or slicing meats, this chef's knife is a perfect knife to grab.
Bruce hand forged this san mai damascus blade to shape. VG-10 super-steel, made by Takefu Special Steel in Japan, is surrounded by nickel damascus. The resulting blade has strength a resilience with exceptional edge holding. The beauty of the many layers of steel is immediately captivating (albeit incredibly hard to photograph!).
The handle is formed from presentation grade ringed gidgee wood (Acacia cambagei). Ringed Gidgee is a unique and rare Australian hardwood. This difficult to find timber is highly sought after by knife makers. It is known for its depth of color, beautiful figure and extreme hardness. Gidgee is classified as the 3rd hardest wood in the world. The ringed gidgee scales have rich, dark tones and a curled figure. The handle is nicely contoured to fit comfortably in hand. The scales are secured to the distal tapered full tang using beautiful mosaic copper and stainless pins.
Excellent work throughout on a knife that is sure to become a chef's favorite knife in the kitchen!
