Description: Journeyman Smith Bruce Barnett is a Western Australian knifemaker living in the hills of Perth. Bruce is one of the fine Australian makers who is drawing the attention of the knifemaking world to the wealth of knifemaking talent in his country. Bruce's attention to detail and fine design aesthetic is clearly apparent in this elegant and high performing hunting knife.
This hunter features a 4.6 inch carbon steel blade hand forged to shape from 52100 carbon steel. Many makers and collectors feel that 52100 is among the best steels available for knifemaking. When combined with a triple temper and triple quench, as shown in the works of Mastersmith Bill Burke, the results are exceptional. A differential heat treatment line is clearly visible on the blade. This shows the division between the soft, supportive spine, and the ultra-hard edge steel. The result: superior edge holding with exceptional durability.
The handle is formed from presentation grade figured jarrah wood (Eucalyptus marginata). Jarrah is a Eucalyptus tree native to the southwest of Western Australia. The tree and the wood are usually referred to by the Aboriginal name jarrah. Because of the similar appearance of worked jarrah timber to the Honduras mahogany, jarrah was once called Swan River mahogany after the river system that runs through Perth, Bruce Barnet's home. The handle has rich, bright tones and a swirling figure. The handle is nicely contoured to fit comfortably in hand. A 416 stainless steel guard is precision fit to the blade and is followed by copper spacer surrounded by thinner black fiber spacers. This assists the handle to adjust to temperature and humidity changes.
Accompanied by a custom pouch style leather sheath.
