Description: Mastersmith Daniel Winkler created the Winkler II line in 2010. It is an alternate approach to an established tradition. Winkler Knives II is the result of processes Daniel Winkler developed over the past few years in order to provide axes and knives to teams within United States Army Special Operations and US Naval Special Warfare. Each piece in this collection bears the Winkler Knives II touchmark.
The Ranger Axe was modeled after an historical axe identified as belonging to a member of Rogers' Rangers. Rogers' company was formed to fight in the French and Indian War (the Seven Years' War in Canada, Britain and Europe), in the borderlands of the colonial Northeast United States. Rogers' Rangers became the chief scouting arm of British Crown forces by the late 1750s. The British valued them highly for gathering intelligence about the enemy.
A full length integral, tapered and skeletonized tang lessens overall weight and provides a no fail handle. Forward weight distribution packs an effective blow, while a secondary hand grip under the head gives the option of quick action when needed. An integral breaching tool extends beyond the handle scales. Black Micarta scales provide a sure, comfortable grip. The top grip is formed by wrapped Paracord. This provides added comfort and allows a section of the handle to be repaired easily if damaged during use.
The Ranger Breaching Axe is accompanied by a felt lined Kydex carrier with nylon webbing belt hangers.
