Description: Daniel Winkler became a full time bladesmith in 1988. His inspiration continues to come from frontier America - a time when the equipment a person carried meant sustenance and survival. He strives to be innovative, while maintaining a recognizable style. His goal is to make tools of uncompromising quality that will last a lifetime and survive as heirlooms for future generations. Winkler had the honor of producing knives and axes for use by principal actors in the epic motion picture Last of the Mohicans
Daniel's friction folders have always been hard to find. This one was made around 2002 and has been meticulously cared for. By all appearances, Daniel could have made it yesterday.
The blade was forged to shape from his own damascus, beginning with carbon steels. The spine is hand fileworked along the spine. A forged curl acts as the blade stop. The handle is crafted from a stag tine and is extremely comfortable. The back spacer is formed from fileworked ancient walrus ivory.
The neck sheath is handmade by Karen Shook. It is hand cut from tanned deer hide and then hand-stitched. Decorative thongs are set with beads.
This is a rare opportunity to procure a rare Daniel Winkler knife!
