Description: Mastersmith Daniel Winkler created the Winkler II line in 2010. It is an alternate approach to an established tradition. Winkler Knives II is the result of processes Daniel Winkler developed over the past few years in order to provide axes and knives to teams within United States Army Special Operations and US Naval Special Warfare. Each piece in this collection bears the Winkler Knives II touchmark.
This axe was developed for a military rescue/extraction team to meet their need for a tool that can be used when power tools either fail or are unavailable. We're very excited to be the exclusive suppliers of the Winkler Breaching Axe!
Weighing in at whopping 2 lbs, this axe is designed to be a hard core breaching tool. The .4 inch thick spike is made for prying as well as piercing. The steel is S7 -- known for its shock resistance and durability. The full tapered tang is skeletonized, reducing while distributing weight in a way that improves balance and strike force. Overall length is 14.2 inches and the head measures 6" from cutting edge to spike.
The resilient black Micarta handle and cord wrap upper provide a secure grip in wet or dry conditions, as well as excellent shock-absorption. The sculpted Micarta provides an excellent grip. Includes a felt lined, Kydex carrier with nylon webbing belt hanger.
