Description: This exceptional folding knife was made by South African knifemaker Herucus Blomerus. I was very excited when Andre Thorburn and Andre Van Heerden introduced me to their friend. His work immediately caught my attention. A resident of Pretoria, Herucus (pronounced 'eh-roo-koos') has been a proud member of the South African Knifemakers Guild since 2005.
The drop point blade is formed from Odin's Eye pattern stainless Damascus. It is high contrast and immediately grabs attention. The blade has silky-smooth action and is well centered. It is easily opened using the right-handed thumb stud. By mirror polishing the flats, Herecus emphasizes his clean, dramatic grind lines. Presentation grade mammoth bark scales are set on the titanium liners. The extremely rare mammoth ivory combines blue/green with caramel tones. The liners are anodized and hand fileworked in a vine pattern.
The bolsters are particularly elegant. They are formed from carefully polished matching damascus -- because he has polished the surface, the Odin's Eye damascus pattern disappears unless carefully looked for. This prepared the steel for engraving in floral scroll style. The engraving is particularly elegant and incorporates art nouveau elements.
Herucus is clearly a maker to keep an eye out for - exceptional fit and finish throughout! This knife would feel equally at home in any collection, or carried in a vest pocket.
