Description: Fred Ott's Colorado Camp Knife is inspirational. It is his work at its best.
The 9-3/4 inch long blade was forged to shape from W2 carbon steel. It was heat treated using a traditional Japanese technique whereby the spine is coated with clay to insulate it during heat treatment. The result is a keen, long lasting edge with a softer, supportive spine. The characteristic gently undulated heat treatment line is called a hamon -- and is very dramatic!
An S-guard and ferrule are formed from antique wrought iron. A section of curly maple is inlay with file silver vines. Dyed green leaves are an elegant and captivating touch. The handle is completed with a mule deer crown. This is a knife you won't want to put down.
The knife is accompanied by a basswood sheath, wrapped in goat skin. It is ornamented with a mule deer tine. Exceptional work throughout!
