Description: Andrew Meers is a talented knifemaker originally from Boston, where he studied under Mastersmith JD Smith. A graduate of Southern Illinois University Carbondale, he is now the artist in residence at Appalachian Center for Crafts. Given the skill shown in this enticing utility knife, he is clearly on my list of makers to watch!
The long, slender damascus blade is a four bar composite forged to shape from 1095 and L6 carbon steels. The resulting pattern is intricate, and highly detailed. It shows both his skills at the grinder and at the forge. The steel clearly shows the influence of Mastersmith JD Smith, who is well known for his skills at creating damascus.
The integral guard moves into damascus 'fingers', reaching out and surrounding the kingwood handle. Cubic zirconia are inlaid into the top and bottom.
Exceptional work throughout!
