Description: Mastersmith Steve Dunn is known nearly as well as an engraver as he is a bladesmith -- and that says a lot. Steve, who teaches classes in engraving at the GRS school, has taught more knifemakers the intricate skills of engraving than anyone I know.
The 52100 carbon steel spear point blade features a hand rubbed satin finish. Many makers and collectors feel that 52100 is among the best steels available for knifemaking. The blade is easily opened using the thumb nick. It has strong action and a half stop.
Black jigged Micarta scales are set on 416 stainless steel liners using domed stainless steel pins. Steve used the same technique of jigging as used on jigged bone, but did it on black Micarta instead. The jigged Micarta is extremely elegant and unique. A 416 stainless steel escutcheon is inlaid into the left scale. Showing his devotion to high precision workmanship and durability, Steve milled the liners and bolsters on each side from one piece of steel, rather than using separate pieces. Though this technique takes significantly more time, it results in stronger, elegant construction. Front and rear bolsters are engraved in a Western scroll style.
Excellent fit and finish throughout.
